Taste and Order in Water

The water is still safe to drink!

Dear Residents of Rancho Murieta                                                                                                            8/6/24

Recently some of you have been experiencing an “earthy smell and taste” in the water.  This is due to the extremely high temperatures that we have been experiencing.  The water is experiencing an aesthetic issue only.  The water is perfectly safe.

We started feeding carbon into the water to remove the organics that is creating this problem.  Due to the constraints on the membrane plant, we are only able to feed the carbon into our older conventional treatment plant.  This will help blend the water between the two plants and remove some of the taste and odor issues.  It will not completely remove the taste and odor but should help substantially.  This should take a couple of days to work through the system.  We are currently handling the problem by flushing affected areas.  Due to the increasing number of above 100-degree days we will continue to feed the carbon throughout the summer to combat this issue.

If you are having issues, please contact the district at 916-354-3700 and we will get the area flushed.
